The economic recession and accompanying austerity measures that have swept Europe in the past six years have had a disproportionate impact on young people: in 2011 the total number of “NEETS” (young people aged 15-24 years old who are unemployed or inactive) was 13.9m across the EU member states. The impacts are not restricted to the unemployed while they are young: lack of work experience, lack of qualifications or training lead to low motivation and morale, and this may have implications for years to come. Today’s NEETs may become the long-term unemployed people of future generations.
CONNECT’s project aim is to enable young people – especially those who are NEET, or with fewer advantages – to work towards the achievement of competences and to improve their personal and social development by engaging in transnational experiences, through the development of virtual mobility projects.
